Attention to Detail

One can admire our home, without seeing the details.  Details that are deliberately, carefully and brilliantly carried out, with skill and outstanding workmanship.  The materials used were  recycled from old growth lumber.  To not see this home as durable, living art, is missing it's beauty and craftsmanship.    It is sustainability in action.  We often say, "we are living in art", art that will live on and on and on...

Bedroom floor is created with  the milled spruce flooring grooved and slid onto metal strips.  The metal strips are attached to the subflooring, with no nail or screw attachments in the wood itself.

Seamlessly metal meets old recycled timbers, which meet old recycled spruce.

Joinery is strong, beautiful and skillfully incorporated into all parts of this home.

Is it a porch or is it art?

More Main Living Beams

Seven up; two to go.

Tuesday

Main Living Center Beam

Travis and Brad work on the center beam, many feet off the ground.

The beam's brackets. Don't ever let it be said that Brad under engineers things. This house will be here well into the future, unlike many of the other new homes being built.

Friday

Brad, the master of detail...

These posts will rise out of the ground and disappear into the wood with no obvious attachment at either end. The top of the posts is especially amazing as the wood is not drilled to hold the wood. Instead, a bolt comes in from above to firmly secure it.

Saturday

One More Layer of Complexity

The final layer of PEX was laid yesterday and is the last layer of detail before the pour. The PEX will carry hot water for heat and is added to a similar layer of PEX at the bottom of this heat sink (5' down), and it joins layers of wire, rebar, electrical conduit, plumbing, sensors, table vaults, insulation, and compacted sand. Yesterday the electrical inspection for the conduit was passed (plumbing passed some weeks ago). The pour is now scheduled for next week for certain. two possible glitches are the weather and running out of PEX for the final "cooling" leg in the outdoor covered area. PEX turns out to be very difficult to locate and to purchase without going through a licensed plumber. And the weather, well, it is a strange spring here in the NW.

Endless angles

We have an ongoing love affair with the angles of our new barn...
